Questions, answered

How long should a title tag be?

Google cuts desktop titles at about 600 pixels, which is roughly 50–60 characters. Wide letters such as W and M take more space than i or l, so the tool measures the real pixel width instead of only counting characters.

How long should a meta description be?

Aim for 120–158 characters. Google usually shows up to about 158 characters on desktop and slightly fewer on mobile, and cuts the rest with an ellipsis.

Does Google always use my meta description?

No. Google rewrites the snippet when it thinks another part of the page matches the search better. A clear, specific description that includes the main keyword is used more often.

Should the keyword be in the title?

Yes, ideally near the start. It tells searchers and Google what the page is about. In the description, Google shows words that match the search in bold, which helps your result stand out.

Is this exactly what Google will show?

It is a close approximation. Google changes its layout often and can add dates, ratings, site names or sitelinks, but the length limits and truncation shown here match the current desktop and mobile results closely.

Is anything I type saved?

No. The preview is built in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
